THE 6IXTH CENTER, NAMED IN HOMAGE TO TORONTO'S "6IX" NICKNAME, IS INCREASING THE EFFICIENCY OF UTILIZING CITY-OWNED LAND IN LIBERTY VILLAGE, TO BETTER SERVE ALL ASPECTS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD'S COMMUNITY.
DURING PEAK BUSINESS HOURS, SPORTING EVENTS AT LAMPORT STADIUM, AND OTHER EVENTS THAT DEMAND HIGH VOLUMES OF PUBLIC PARKING, THE GROUND FLOOR IS ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE SUCH NEEDS.
DURING NON-PEAK HOURS, THE 6IXTH CENTER IS ABLE TO RE-PROGRAM ITSELF INTO TWO BASKETBALL COURTS, OR ONE HARD-TOP SOCCER FIELD. COMBINATIONS OF ONE BASKETBALL COURT AND HALF-FULL PARKING IS ALSO POSSIBLE.
TO ACHIEVE THE RELATIVELY MASSIVE SPAN THAT THE 6IXTH CENTER REQUIRES FOR ITS GROUND FLOOR FACILITIES. THE ROOFING STRUCTURE WAS ABLE TO BE THICKENED TO INCLUDE ANOTHER FLOOR. THIS FLOOR INCLUDES AN EXPERIMENTAL MEDIA LAB AND FITNESS STUDIOS.
THE 6IXTH CENTER'S ROOFTOP IS DEDICATED TO PUBLIC GREEN SPACE. THE DEEP LIGHT-WELLS AND STRUCTURAL STRATEGY OF THE BUILDING ALLOWED FOR A TERRACED ROOF. EACH OF THESE TERRACES CAN BE PROGRAMMED BY VARIES ASPECTS OF LIBERTY VILLAGE'S COMMUNITY.
THE 6IXTH CENTER IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE THE DIVERSITY OF PROGRAMMING AND PUBLIC AMMENTITIES IN THE WESTERN SIDE OF LIBERTY VILLAGE DURING NON-BUSINESS HOURS WHILE FURTHER ADDING TO THE STRENGTH OF LIBERTY VILLAGE'S INVOLVEMENT IN THE GROWING TORONTO FILM INDUSTRY.
